Everybody wants to be a Levite or a Judahite. But did you know that Levi was an angry, judgmental and vengeful person along with his brother Simeon, and the two wrecked havoc wherever they went! They took matters into their own hands and they were ruthless! These “bad boys” of Israel had to be separated by their father Jacob so they could grow spiritually and not bring more shame on the family. They both had to learn the hard way. And then there’s Judah. Judah was a drunk! Judah was prosperous! He’s all about profit. The first thing out of Judah’s mouth in the Bible was, “What profit is it if we slay our brother and conceal his blood? Come, let us sell him,” when the brothers were going to kill Joseph (Genesis 27:26,27). Judah is a mover ‘n shaker, and a great influencer who can talk his way out of trouble, convince you he’s right and get you so excited about something you’ll think it was all your idea! And what about laid-back Asher? He could be sitting on the solution to the world’s problem and never say a word…until asked. Then there’s lighthearted Naphtali! These people wake up to a new world every morning, when their feet hit the floor, they’re all over the court! Clearly the ADD tribe of the bunch! Oh, but don’t forget Manasseh, the faith bulldogs of Israel! The odds were stacked against them, yet this tribe changed their own destiny! And oh, yes, Gad. Elijah was a Gadite. He’s calling down fire one minute, then running from a woman the next. What’s up with that? Probably bi-polar at best! Hmm.

God chose the foolish, the weak, the base and the despised things to confound the wise and the mighty! He chose the worst of the worst and the weakest of the weak to be the priesthood and to carry the scepter to the kingdom!

The “first family” of God is as unique and individual as your family! 13 tribes in all, each tribe, or family unit had its own personality and way of dealing with things. Come “bond” with the sons of Israel, and “find yourself” among the tribes!
